Give Someone You Love a
Bounce Back Bouquet
Do you care about someone who is struggling with loss or loneliness, or mental health issues like anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD or addiction?
Want to let them know you value and love them as they are right now, and that they’re not alone? Want to send the gift of forever sunshine their way?
Why am I making silk floral arrangements?
Following a severe mental health crisis in 2024, I was hospitalized in an Upstate New York psychiatric unit for more than 30 days. The traumatic experiences I went through while in the hospital led me to develop PTSD and OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). To help heal, I began creative play therapy at the encouragement of my husband Shaun.
“Creative play therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses play and creative activities to help children, adolescents, and adults express themselves, process emotions, and work through challenges. It’s particularly effective for addressing issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. Through play, individuals can explore their inner world, develop coping mechanisms, and improve their emotional well-being.”
I find nature and gardening in my flower gardens to be highly therapeutic. But since I was released from the hospital in January and I live in New York, immersing myself in nature and gardening weren’t exactly viable options for play therapy…
So I brought summer into my house! I purchased summery silk flowers and began experimenting with making bouquets. I found it to be a relaxing, inspiring and a fun creative outlet to engage my overstimulated OCD brain. Making floral arrangements was one of many tools that helped me tap into my creativity and bounce back from mental health dis-ease.
I love making floral arrangements so much I decided to use this newfound blessing from God as a tool to support my mission in raising awareness of suicide prevention, ending the stigma of mental health shame and empowering people to bounce back from adversity and mental health dis-ease with their healthcare team that I teach individuals how to create.
